Sefton Council has issued a press release responding to yesterday’s announcement that a confirmed case linked to the South African variant of COVID-19 had been identified in the PR9 postcode, which includes a large part of Southport.

The council has confirmed dedicated test sites will be set up for the new variant and once they are in place, everyone over the age of 16 will be encouraged to get tested as soon as possible even if they do not have any symptoms.

Mobile testing units will be deployed from Wednesday 3 February and a team of people will be knocking on doors to provide and collect home testing kits for local residents.
